Teatro Grattacielo Arts Education Outreach – The Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy Introduction and workshop for school aged youth of Gioachino Rossini's Opera

Il barbiere di Siviglia

The Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy, founded by Teatro Grattacielo's Chairman of the Board Enzo Pizzimenti, aims to promote the Italian language and culture through educational programming and informal lecture-concerts geared to school aged youth and emerging opera professionals. As the arts education arm of Teatro Grattacielo, The Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy provides young opera professionals, youth opera performers (ages 14-21) as well as youth opera enthusiasts with a first hand encounter with the operatic arts.

Via in-school workshops, training with masters of Italian vocal traditions as well as professional performance opportunities, students of Teatro Grattacielo's Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy will become familiar with both mainline and lesser-known repertoire as well as Italian performance style, thus promoting the expansion and appreciation of both the Italian language and its operatic traditions.

Objective:

19th century Italian opera offers an interesting and rich curriculum for school aged youth in music, theater and language arts. Students of the workshop will embark on a journey of opera, theater and the Italian language, through monthly training in classical singing and acting. This invitation to participate and experience the richness of the operatic arts will enable students to find connections with their own forms of expression, culminating in a live performance of the last act of Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia performed by the participating students along side the teaching artists of the workshop.

The workshop begins with a showcase concert performed by the teaching artists of The Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy followed by a wrap up Q/A session. The instruction continues, and is divided in two facets of learning.
