Performance is both the driving force behind Camerata Bardi International Academy’s program and the culmination of its work: having completed a rigorous curriculum in language, style, and interpretation, our singers experience the rehearsal period as a training ground, preparing them both for the role at hand and the professional operatic world writ large. This combination of study and stage work, a pedagogical process and an artistic exploration, helps each singer develop confidence, versatility, and a personal artistic voice that translates naturally to the professional world.
Giacomo Puccini’s classic Suor Angelica offers a tantalizing exploration of the inner worlds of thought and memory. This imaginative new production, conducted by Saverio Alfieri and directed by Stefanos Koroneos, gives our emerging singers the space and structure to explore the traditional operatic language of verismo and honor the emotional force at the heart of Puccini’s music, while exploring the dramatic and storytelling possibilities of opera today — approaching Suor Angelica not as a museum object, but as a work built and shaped by the stories of women who were compelled to obey, driven by love, and ultimately forced to surrender the unspeakable.
