Soprano Yaqi Yang (Stage name, Giovanna Yang), based in NYC, is an opera singer known for her bell-like expressive voice. Ms.Yang had the privilege of performing in operas and concerts across the country. She has been engaged by several opera companies including Florida Grand Opera outreach and Music On Site, Inc. Her performing career has taken her to some of the most prominent venues, including NYC Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center Alice Tully Hall, Vienna’s Ehrbar Saal, Sicily’s Palazzo Ducezio, and Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center.
Ms. Yang had the honor of singing the leading role in the world premiere "The Leopard", an opera whose album was officially released by the premier classical label Naxos Records. Her performances have been reviewed by prestigious critics like OperaWire, The European Conservative, South Florida Classical Review, etc. OperaWire described her as “exceedingly charming” and “exuberant and soaring.” She was honored to receive praise from South Florida Classical Review, where she displayed a larger-than-life stage persona and a gleaming high register. Giovanna is a prizewinner of many competitions. Recent awards include the Florida chapter winner in the Dorothy Lincoln-Smith Voice Award, Second Prize in NATS Florida Gold Coast Chapter, First Prize in London Classical Music Competition, Gold Price in German Euterpe Awards Competition, Silver Award for American Classical Music Award and Third Prize in Poland International ArtSong OPUS Competition. Major opera roles include Cleopatra in “Giulio Cesare”(Vienna Summer Music Festival) Lucy in “The Telephone”(Frost Opera Theatre) Zerlina in “Don Giovanni”(Aquilon Music Festival) Pamina “Die Zauberflöte”(New Jersey Vocal Arts Collaborative) Frasquita in “Carmen”(Music on site, Inc) Sophie in “Der Rosenkavalier”(Frost Opera Theatre Opera Scene) and, Susanna in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” (Temple University Opera Scene) In addition to her operatic work, she is an active recitalist. She sang as the soprano soloist in "Carmina Burana" with the Frost Symphony Orchestra in 2022.
Yaqi received her Doctor of Musical Arts in voice performance at Frost School of Music, University of Miami; Masters of Music from Temple University. She served as an audition judge panel for 2025 NATS NYC chapter student auditions in Columbia University and 2024 New York Progressive musicians Carnegie Hall Laureate Gala audition. She is one of the founding board members of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Mainland China Chapter under the international region.
